New York (UNA/WAFA) – Leaders of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states stressed the need to end the Israeli occupation's aggression on Gaza, achieve an immediate ceasefire, and allow the entry of sufficient humanitarian aid, as the first step towards a just and lasting peace.
This came in a joint statement issued by the multilateral summit with US President Donald Trump, eight Arab countries, and member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, held at the United Nations headquarters on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 80th session of the General Assembly.
The leaders reviewed the tragic and unbearable situation in the Gaza Strip, including the humanitarian catastrophe and massive human losses, as well as its grave consequences for the region and its impact on the Islamic world.
They reaffirmed their shared position rejecting forced displacement and the need to allow those who have left to return. They emphasized the need to develop a detailed plan to achieve stability, while ensuring the stability of the West Bank and the holy sites in Jerusalem. They also expressed their support for the Palestinian Authority's reform efforts.
Participants also stressed the need to develop a comprehensive plan for the reconstruction of Gaza, based on the plan of the Arab states and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, as well as security arrangements, with international assistance to support the Palestinian leadership.
They expressed their commitment to working together to ensure the success of the plans and the rebuilding of the lives of Palestinians in Gaza, stressing the importance of maintaining momentum to ensure that this meeting marks the beginning of a path on the right path toward a future of peace and regional cooperation.
