
Cairo (UNA/WAS) – The Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Yamahi, welcomed the United States’ announcement of the start of procedures to remove the Syrian Arab Republic from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, as a positive step that would contribute to supporting recovery and reconstruction efforts, enhancing stability, and creating a suitable environment to support economic development in Syria.
Al-Yamahi stressed in a statement today that this step represents an important development that supports Syria’s return to playing its normal role at the international level, and contributes to alleviating the economic and humanitarian burdens on the Syrian people, as well as opening the way for revitalizing the economy, attracting investments, and supporting reconstruction efforts, in order to achieve the aspirations of the Syrian people for security, stability and prosperity.
The Arab Parliament reiterated its firm and supportive stance towards all Arab, regional and international efforts aimed at supporting Syria, preserving its unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and strengthening state institutions in order to achieve security and stability and safeguard the capabilities of the Syrian people.
The Speaker of the Arab Parliament called on the international community to continue taking steps that would support Syria’s stability and economic recovery, and to enhance cooperation with it in a way that serves the interests of the Syrian people and contributes to consolidating security, stability and development in the region, stressing that Syria’s stability is a fundamental pillar for the stability and security of the entire Arab region.
